COLEMERG- As people in the town of Yüksekova resist the Turkish state's violent state of martial law, the women of Yüksekova have declared the founding of the YPS Jin, or Women's Civil Defense Forces.
The women's defense organization YPS-Jin, recently founded in many cities in Northern Kurdistan, has announced the founding of its Gever units. After declaration in Sur, Cizre, Silopi and Nusaybin, YPS-Jin have been declared with ceremony in Yüksekova, in Hakkari province, against the repeated assults of Turkish state forces in Kurdistan.
Rozerin Gever, the Gever command of the YPS-Jin, said, "As Kurds, we always gave a peace hand to Turkish state even if they have pursued the politics of denial, extermination and assimilation being waged against the Kurdish people. However, Turkish state has not responded the Kurdish people and their leader's (referring to jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan) initiative and effort. On the contrary, the state has responded every effort by killing our people and by opening fire on us.
"In the month of July, they began a process of total annihilation of the Kurds through the bombing of the mountains, the villages and cities. Now, this annihilation project has continued for months in our cities through the most savage and inhumane practices. "We, as Gever women, are announcing our units, based on the platform of the YPS [Civil Defense Forces], against colonialism, the ruling power and violence against women. We support the people's demand of self-government."
The women ended the announcement with slogans, including "long live the leader Apo" (referring to jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan).
