İSTANBUL - Prime Minister said, "Giving birth is national service." Women responded: "The power wants us to give birth to kill the people who resist and fight for freedom. We will organize together and we will resist together."
The AKP Government has added a new chapter to its discourse that legitimizes violence against women and puts them in home by targetting them. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Turkey's Prime Minister, made a statement. He said, "We are ready for the legal amendment [about the women's working conditions]. Hereupon, women's unpaid leave due to the birth will be in the civil service retirement. Because, a woman who give a birth, is performing the sacred duty of motherhood as well as doing a national service." Women said that in this way, they found another way to confine the women in house.
Reacting to the statement of Ahmet Davutoğlu, Nergis Şen, one of the Anarchist Women, said, " Their discourse which aim to confine the women in the houses was started with "A women must give birth three children,". State's perspectives against women are obvious. They just want to put the women in the houses by using mother figure. He said "national service", because, we are in a war which created by the state. They try to sacralize the war by drawing an analogy with national service."
Nurten Karahancı, a member of Members of Labourer Women, said, "The state considers the women as children producing machine. They want us to give birth to children to kill the people who resist and fight for freedom. Whenever women are ready and they want to have child, that time they will have. We should give birth children in more peaceful time. We should raise them for more peaceful time. We will organize together and we will resist together to have peaceful time."
