ANKARA – At the UN building in Turkey’s capital of Ankara, a group of women from the Peace Mothers group has started a hunger strike against the massacres in Kurdistan.

For the last three days, Peace Mothers from the cities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir have converged on Turkey’s capital of Ankara. They have been attempting to ensure that the wounded citizens trapped in a basement in the besieged town of Cizre be evacuated.

When the women received no response from members of Turkey’s Parliament, they met with the UN’s representative in Turkey yesterday. They called for the UN to form an independent delegation to immediately travel to Cizre and reach the wounded. The women stressed that it was impossible for humanity to remain a spectator to these events. However, UN officials replied that it was not “currently possible to satisfy this demand.”

The women spent two hours attempting to convince the UN officials. When they did not receive a response, they started a hunger strike in the UN building.

The Peace Mothers have announced that their action will continue until the UN meets their demand.

As the women were meeting with the officials, two riot police vehicles were dispatched to the building.
