Human Rights Foundation of Turkey: 224 civilians killed in "curfews"

ANKARA- Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (THİV) noted that 1 million 377 thousand people have been affected by curfews (24-hour) and 224 civilians have been killed during the "curfews".

THİV Documentation Centre issued a report on the violations of right to health and life during "24-hour curfews". According the report, at least 224 civilians, among them 42 children, 31 women, 30 people over 60 years old, have been killed since August 16,2015.

The report reads, "24-hour curfew has been imposed in the Sur district of Diyarbakır since December 11, 2015. It has been imposed in the Cizre district of Şırnak since December 14, 2015. The 24-hour curfew was declared in the Silopi district of Şırnak. Then it was changed to half day curfew(night curfew). 142 civilians have been killed in these three cities until now. According the witnesses' statements; at least 64 of 142 civilians were killed within the boundaries of their houses, 53 of them were shot and killed and 11 of them passed away due to a shell hit their houses or being trapped under the rubble between December 11, 2015 and February 5, 2016."

According the report; At least 31 civilians passed away due to denied access of ambulances by state forces.
