Police attack actions for Cizre

NEWS CENTER – As thousands took to the streets across Turkey and Kurdistan to protest the massacre in the Cizre basement, police attacked protestors in multiple cities.

As Turkish state forces maintain a siege and 24-hour siege in the town of Cizre, citizens wounded in the attacks took refuge in two separate basements in the town. Turkish state forces repeatedly blocked ambulance access to the buildings, bombarded them and allowed deadly fires to burn. Two days ago, Turkish state forces conducted an operation on one basement, assassinating at least 30 wounded people.

The people of Diyarbakır began a noise demo at 7:00 p.m. People took to the streets and began building barricades across the city. Police arrested three in an attack on the protest at Yenişehir Ekinciler Avenue, while they launched tear gas at the many barricades in in the Bağlar district.

In the Diyarbakır town of Silvan, police attacked protestors and blockaded them with armored vehicles. 19-year-old Muhammet Turunç was shot and hospitalized as the 7:00 p.m. noise demo was winding down.

Noise demos were held in all districts of Mardin province, as well as across Şırnak province and in Dersim.

As hundreds gathered in Istanbul’s Galatasaray Square to protest the massacre with a press statement, police attacked the crowd with tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets. The attack kicked off clashes. As residents of the city’s Gazi neighborhood protested the attack, police responded by launching tear gas into a crowded hospital. The police blockaded the hospital and threatened to shoot anyone who emerged. As youth gathered in the Kanarya neighborhood in protest, police attacked the youths’ barricades, leading to clashes.

In Izmir, police attacked a gathering called by the Peace Bloc, arrested at least 40 in an attack with tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets.

Residents of Turkey’s capital of Ankara held a march and noise demo. The crowd then decided to hold a vigil for Cizre until morning. Within three hours, police attacked the crowd.

Meanwhile, Peace Mothers maintained a sit-in at the UN building in Ankara to protest the UN’s inaction in Cizre.
