ŞIRNEX – Yet another report of a “basement of savagery” has emerged in Cizre. It has emerged that 50 people trapped in a basement in the Sur neighborhood have been attacked by state forces, with between 20 and 25 of those inside being killed. The other wounded in the basement report that they are under assault.
In the besieged town of Cizre, Turkish state forces have trapped the wounded in basements under assault for weeks. In two separate basements in the Cudi neighborhood, dozens of the wounded have so far been burned to death or killed by explosives used by state forces.
Today, news of yet another “basement of savagery” has emerged. It has emerged that 50 people have been trapped in the basement of a building in the Sur neighborhood near the Kerem Hotel. Between 20 and 25 of the 50 have been killed in state forces’ attacks on the building.
The third basement became public knowledge via Derya Koç, the former co-chair for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the Milas district of western Turkey, who is among those trapped in the basement. Derya recently called her father and reported the situation.
“As of now, they have burned to death 20-25 of our friends trapped here. They are trying to execute the rest of them,” Derya reportedly told her father.
Derya’s father Kemal Koç said that his daughter calling him on Monday and told him that she was trapped in a basement in Cizre.
“After the news came out that 60 people had been killed [in one of the Cizre basements], she called me and said that her condition was good,” said Kemal. “She said that she was out of telephone credits and asked me to load some. I did. Since that day, I wasn’t able to reach her again. But today she called me and said their condition was bad.”
