Children build barricades in Nusaybin

MÊRDİN – Nusaybin is one of the town in Kurdistan where the self-goverment declared. Children build barricades to not be killed in the town. Children in Nusaybin grow up with the stories of their sisters and brothers. They even were named after their sisters and brothers. They are resisting with their small hands.

People of all ages strengthen the self-defense in the Nusaybin district of Mardin where self-government declared. Children are building the barricades with paving stones and flour bags in almost every streets of the Zeynelabidin neighborhood of Nusaybin. The children start to work early in the morning ultil late of night. They are listening resistance songs while they are building the barricades. The sole purpose of children is to protect the demolishment of their houses on their small bodies. The children were raised with the stories of the state’s oppression.

Nuri(10) said his three brothers joined the PKK and he hasn’t seen one of them while he passed the paving stones to his friends. He said, “My brother should see me and says to his comrates “he is my brother” and he will be pround of me.”

Makbule(5) could take only one paving stone with her small hands. She is smiling all times. She said that Diyar Bagok who died last year while he was fighting against Daesh in Kobani, is her uncle. Makbule told us her name, then she said “I am a member of YPS-JIN.”

Diyana(8) can carry four paving stones while adults only can carry three. Diyana named after her sister who joined the PKK and died. Diyana said that she only see her sister on the pictures.

Melek(11) is following her sister’s footprints. Her sister is a member of YPS-JIN. She listened the songs and carried the paving stones. Melek said, “They [Turkish state forces) kill children. But we are not scared. If we don’t die, we will revolutionize.”
