ŞIRNEX - The people's problems have been solved in People's Assembly in Şırnak where self-government declared. Ayşe Çiftçi, the co-chair of the People's Assembly, stated that people fall back upon the People's Assembly for many problems such as domestic violence, forced the children to marry, education and health instead of government agencies. The best current model is self-government for women's willpower.
The commissions have been formed in the neighborhoods of Şırnak just after the declaration fo self-government to seek the solutions of the people's problems. Şırnak people aim to build a communal culture which consists of all services from life to education by saying "We will govern our city and ourselves". People fall back upon the People's Assembly on issues related to the organization of social life, education and health in self-government area. The people have organized as commissions in neighborhoods and they have solved the problems in these commissions. The top authority, meanwhile is the City Council. This council is playing a role of umbrella organization. The People's Assembly has tried to solve the problems, if they cannot solve some problems, they inform the problems to the City Council.
As the organizational model, they try to solve the problems locally. We spoke to Ayşe Çiftçi, co-chair of the Şırnak People's Assembly which is a basis of self-government. Ayşe expressed that Kurdish people don't want to govern from outside anymore as a result of 40 years resistance. Ayşe said that they recommend self-government, a name of the local administration not only for Kurdish but also for whole of Turkey.
"Kurds have been denied for years. They don't accept that anymore. So they have resisted to govern their own free will," said Ayşe and stated that women will be the principal determinant of this form of government. "Our resistance of self-government will not be limited with Botan, it will be spread to metropolitan areas. Women are the leadership of the self-government. The women will lead us to victory. We, as women, know that our rightful struggle will succeed against this traitor and fascist attacks," said Ayşe.
Ayşe told us a story which she had to find a solution; "Some youths stole something. The victims went to the police station to find a solution. However, the police told them "You should meet with the youths who declared the self-government." After the victims told us the story, we found the youths who stole. We talked to them and their families. Finally, we solved the problem."
The People's Assembly is also dealing with the problems in education, health and many other fields in Şırnak.
