NEWS CENTER – Hundreds of women marched to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg, France today to protest the court’s refusal to issue interim measures to protect people in Kurdistan from Turkish state attacks.
As a sit-in organized by Kurdish organizations TJK-E and KCD-E continues in Strasbourg, France, hundreds of women marched from the sit-in to the ECHR court building yesterday. The women carried banners denouncing the Council of Europe (CoE), the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for taking a policy of “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” regarding the Turkish state’s massacres of civilians. The women chanted slogans including “terrorist Turkey” at the march.
Despite the heavy police presence at the court when the women arrived, the women spoke to recall that the ECHR had repeatedly denied applications for interim measures to protect civilians. Lawyers have largely called for those in besieged towns in Kurdistan to be able to access medical care, as Turkish state forces denied ambulance access and medical care to the wounded.
The women, who announced that they will continue their actions, returned to the tents.
