At least 18 children hiding in Sur basements

ANKARA - The initiative "Peace for Children Now" stated that there are at least 18 children who have taken refuge in several basement of Sur. According to the UN Children's Rights Convention, UNICEF, UN human rights mechanisms, the EU and the European Commission are obliged to evacuate these children from the basements safely. The initiative called on the authorities to open a safely corridor for the children who have been trapped in the basements.
The initiative made a statement. The statement read; " According to the statements made by the European Parliament Turkey Rapporteur and the information given by the press, at least 18 children have taken refuge in several basements in Sur. Diyarbakır Governorship also confirms that there are children in the clashes area."
The initiative called the government officials, all political parties in the parliament, representatives, UNICEF, UN human rights mechanisms, the EU and the European Commission to do their duty and open a safely corridor for the children who have been trapped in the basements.
