This war was began in İmralı prison. It was began with isolation in the prison. They detached Abdullah Öcalan from society. Then they launched the policies of military on Kurdistan. Abdullah Öcalan, also known as Apo, is the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Abdullah Öcalan was arrested in 1999 and he was put in Imralı prison. He has been in Imralı prison ( an Island) since then.
Aysel Tuğluk, former co-chair of the Democratic Society Congress, issued statements to our news agency. Aysel Tuğluk pointed out that Imrali Island have been completely isolated from the outside world. "The laws of the Republic of Turkey haven't been not implemented in İmralı. We must look on Imralı as a holding facility which is run by a crisis center."
Aysel said that Abdullah Öcalan has been held in the Imralı as a hostage. "Sometimes, they improve the conditions in Imralı, sometimes they make it worse due to the conjuncture. Human right and law haven't been implemented in Imralı. Even the constitution hasn't been implemented there.
"Mr. Abdullah Öcalan is not an ordinary person. He is the leader of millions of people. He is a leader in the democratic solution of the Kurdish problem. However, Turkish state wants to give a message to the society and limit Mr. Abdullah Öcalan by launching an isolation policy.
"The state began a war. This war was began in Imralı prison. They detached Abdullah Öcalan from society. Then they have launched the policies of military. The developments are paralel with the practises."
Aysel said that there is a civil war in Kurdistan. "State forces have attacked women, children and civilians. They have faced oppression just because, they want to live in their own lands with their rights. Kurds have asked their rights for years. The Kurds will never take steps backward despite these cruelty and brutality practices. On the contrary, they will ask their rights and demands more.
"We will have pain, we will loss our people. But, the Kurds will take their legitimate and democratic rights in the end."
