Rojava Women: 2016 will be the year of women's freedom

QAMIŞLO - In the fifth year of the revolution of Rojava, Rojava women are working to make democratic free life a permanent reality in all areas of life and to add women's thought, spirit and labor to every field. The women enlivening the revolution's spring commented on March 8, International Women's Day.
Women around the world have expressed their demands by taking to the streets for March 8, International Women's Day. Rojava women have continued their activities and actions for March 8. Women spoke to our agency about the occasion. Ruken Ahmed, a member of the executive committee of Star Kobanê, pointed out that women have pioneered the revolution in Rojava. "Women are central to the struggle in the Kurdistan revolution. Women have organized themselves in this revolution."
Ruken stated that women are fighting against the male-dominated mentality and the bans and repression of the Ba'ath regime in Syria. "The consciousness and culture of patriotism have been enlivened in Rojava thanks to these women. We founded Yekitiya Star to gather women who are struggling in Rojava and Syria under a single roof in 2015. We have faced the Ba'ath regime's pressure. Our friend, Nazliye Keçel, was disappeared in detention; Gulê Selmün was martyred. Many of our friends faced torture under detention. Kurdish women have played a great role in the Rojava revolution since 2011. Women have organized in many areas of life."
Ruken said that democratic autonomy system is based on women's freedom. Women have had equal participation and the power of deciding with co-chairs system." Women Law is the first in the World. This law is gain for Kurdish women. These laws will let people to progress in a democratic society. We, as women, will continue to take part in all fields of the life and we will continue our struggle. We wish a happy March 8, International Women's Day, to all women around the world. We believe in that 2016 will be the year of women's freedom."
Jinda Ali, executive president of Women Cizîr Canton, wish a happy March 8, International Women's Day to all women around the world and she said, "I salute the Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan who endeavoured for women's freedom. We must fight for freedom of our leader."
