"He was the most valuable part of my heart"

ŞIRNEX - Ekrem Sevilgen (17) was one of the people who were massacred in the second basement, which is known as "basements of savagery", in the Cizre district of Şırnak. Ekrem's grandmother Behiye Sevilgen raised him because his mother and father had been divorced. Ekrem's dream was to be a footballer. "He was the most valuable part of my heart, I cannot take anything else to my heart anymore," said Behiye Sevilgen.
Elderly people, women, children, babies and and innocent unborn children were massacred in the Cizre district of Şırnak by state forces. One of them was Ekrem Sevilgen (17). His family had to leave the Boyuncuk village and moved to Cizre in 1990s due to evacuation of their village. Ekrem grew up in Cizre's streets. He was raised by his grandmother Behiye Sevilgen because his mother and father were divorced.
Ekrem was known as a footballer by all resisdents in the neighborhood because he loved to play football. Ekrem was liked by the residents in neighborhood. He loved the children and his grandmother. Ekrem didn't leave his home in the Nur neighborhood of Cizre after martial law had begun. He was wounded in the attacks of state forces. He was taken to second basement by the citizens who stayed in the neighborhood. He was massacred with other people while they were waiting ambulances. His family found his dead body in Mardin Artuklu Hospital after DNA test. His family bid farewell Ekrem.
His death tears his grandmother heart out. Behiye Sevilgen said, "He was the most valuable part of my heart. There is a yawning gap in my heart. I cannot take something else to his place. He asked us to stay in the neighborhood and resist there. However, my husband was sick and we had to take him out of the neighborhood. I and my husband left. Other members of our family stayed there."
