İSTANBUL - Istanbul Aydin University Women's Solidarity (IAU) wanted to hold some activities to memorialize Gülay Bursalı who died after falling from a balcony in order to get rid of sexual assault. Women were blocked by university management and men attacked them.

Istanbul Aydin University Women's Solidarity (IAU) wanted to hold some activities to draw attention to murder of Gülay Bursalı who died after falling from a balcony in order to get rid of sexual assault and and memorialize her. First university management tried to prevent the memorial by saying there isn’t family’s permission. Women contacted Gülay’s mother and they learned that the family permits them. Then, women protested that in front of the university. Thereupon, men attacked the women.


Women beat the men back by using self-defense. A woman went to police station to complain against the men. The woman was exposed to gendered discourses in police station. Women from Istanbul Aydin University Women's Solidarity (IAU) made a statement on the subject. The statement reads, “We, as women from Istanbul Aydin University Women's Solidarity (IAU) denounce the gender assault. We call on all women to raise our organization against the woman’s enemies who support and protect the rapists.”
