Êzidî women who rescued from Daesh tell their stories

ŞENGAL –Forces of the People's Defence Force (HPG), Shengal Resistance Units(YBŞ) and Shengal Women Units (YJŞ) rescued 51 Êzidî consist of women and children from Daesh in the Mediban village within the scope of the Lunce of Revenge of Shilo Martyrs. Women stated that they had been held in a prison under ground for months and they feel the happy of freedom now.

10 women and 41 children totally 51 Êzidî Kurds were taken captive when Daesh’s gangs seized Shengal on August 3, 2014. 51 Êzidîs have been rescued by Forces of the People's Defence Force (HPG), Shengal Resistance Units (YPŞ) and Shengal Women Units (YJŞ). They met with their relatives in Êzidî Women’s Assembly on Shengal Mountains. Zeki Şengali from Shengal Êzidî Coordination greeted the captive women and children. Besma Hesen Hemo, one of the women, said, “I am with my husband and six children now. They took my husband away one year ago. I didn’t know where he was. We didn’t have any news from him. I came back with my six children now. I want to thank to the friends who rescued us once again. I hope the others can be rescued and turn back to their families.”

Necme Bapîr Xelef said that deash gangs had took them to Til Efer first and she continued, “Then they took us to Musul Heyirxidir. They separated the men from us there. They took women to Rojava. I didn’t get any news from my husband for one year. They put us in a prison under ground. We are free thanks to the friends. I didn’t believe to see Êzîdxan lands again. I thank them. We will never forget their efforts.”

Sîham Selîm Mehmud, one of rescued women, said, “Being captured by them was really very difficult. I don’t know how I can explain it. I thank them. My uncle and his seven children are still in their hands. I hope they will be rescued like us.”

Hedye Lalo said, “I was with my husband. But they separated us. They took young girls. When we arrived to Rojava, they took three of my children. One of my daughters is 14 years old, other is 10 years old and my son is 13 years old. I haven’t got any information from them for 11 months. I was pregnant when I was captured. I gave birth to my baby. However, I didn’t give a name to him. I named him Shengal when we returned to Shengal.”

After the women, Dayê Xoxê from Shengal Women Assembly said, “I have suffered so far. However, we formed our defense force now, no one can close to these lands. We didn’t pay them. There were two Daesh prisoners in Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) and Shengal Women Units (YJŞ). They gave them these two men and we took back our people. We are happy to due to our people come back. We wish the other people will be also rescued soon.”
