First hearing of our 'excited' reporter Beritan on March 29

AMED - Our reporter Beritan Canözer has been jailed for three months. Beritan had been arrested for being "excited" while she was covering a protest against the 24-hour curfew. The first hearing of Beritan is on March 29. As colleagues of Beritan and women journalists, we have taken over the excitement of Beritan and we call on all women to attend the hearing of Beritan.

People and MPs organized a march to protest and break the siege in the Sur district of Diyarbakır. Our reporter Beritan Canözer was covering the protest while special forces surrounded Beritan in Ofis area of Diyarbakır and took her into custody for being "excited". Beritan was taken into an armored vehicle on December 16, 2016 with her camera and microphone. Beritan was held under detention for four days within the scope of "reasonable doubt". Beritan was sent to jail due to her news notes by the court on duty. Beritan was sent to Diyarbakır E Type Closed Prison. Beritan told her colleagues in the prison, "I haven't lost my excitement here. I save it.My friends musn't loss their excitements. I am sending my greeting to them."

All journalists, particularly women, used every means available for Beritan and they asked for her release. As her colleagues, JINHA team said, "We have taken over the excitement of Beritan" and "We are more excited than Beritan." They also gave their word to do their duty despite the difficulties and pressures. The journalists came to Diyarbakır to hold "news vigil". They went to in front of Diyarbakır E Type Closed Prison and started a sit down strike by saying, "We seek the truth, we stand with our colleagues."

According to accusation given to Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court, our reporter Beritan has been accused to charges of "being members of aterror organization" and "making propaganda of a terrorist organization". Beritan's shares on social media and news notes were considered evidence of "crime".

Beritan was exiled from Diyarbakır E Type Closed Prison with other 18 women. The women were exiled to Sincan, Gebze, Şakran and Bakırköy Prisons on March 13. Beritan was exiled to Bakırköy Women's Closed Prison. Beritan's first hearing will be on March 29 in Diyarbakır.
