Name of Silvan's symbol, 70 years of resistance: Hayriye

AMED - Hayriye Hüdaverdi (70) was killed on October 2, 2015 during the fourth 24-hour curfew which was imposed in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır. Hayriye was shot and killed by state forces while she was trying to save a young woman named Deniz. Hayriye's children and relatives said that they will protect Hayriye's legacy of resistance.

Many civilians were killed during martial law under the name of curfew had been declared fourth time on October 2, 2015 in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır. One of them is 70 years old Hayriye Hüdaverdi. Hayriye went out to buy bread and she was killed by gunfire from an armored vehicle. Hayriye lived in the Konak neighborhood of Silvan. She didn't leave her home despite all attacks. Hayriye is known as "brave mother" in the neighborhood. She tried to give bread to her neighbors, who stayed in the neighborhoods, under fire. Hayriye's children and nephew told us her. They said that Hayriye said "I never leave my home and my children" against state forces' announcement "leave the neighborhood."

Huluke Hüdaverdi said that they never take away the youths in the Women's Civil Defense Units (YPS-JIN) and Civil Defense Units (YPS) from their children. Her mother Hayriye treated equally to her children and the youths. "My mother always told us that how a woman must live. She never applied pressure on us. She was a old woman but she didn't grow up us as a traditional woman. Our mother loved the neighborhood. She first thought the people around her, then herself. They saw my mother by using thermal cameras and they killed her. No one can say they didn't see her. It wasn't an accident. My mother becomes the symbol of Silvan."

Maşşallah Hüdaverdi is the second daughter of Hayriye. Maşallah said that their mother was the mother of all Silvan. "I was with my mother all time. I grew up with her. Everyone said, "The friend of her mother also came". My mother was my comrade and she was also the comrade of the people who resisted here. I am proud of my mother. She taught us how we can be a mother and comrade."

Ramazan Hülakü is nephew and son-in-law of Hayriye. Ramazan said that Hayriye went out to buy bread on October 2, 2015 and then she saw a young woman named Deniz was shot. "We learned how my aunt was killed. My aunt wanted to save a young woman named Deniz who had been shot. An armored vehicle which had been positioned in the field opened fire on her. The women named Deniz and my aunt were shot side by side. My aunt regarded all youths as her children. If there was a cat there, my aunt would try to save it. No one has right to take one's life. We will continue my aunt's resistance."
