İSTANBUL - Berivan Kartal had been taken into custody on the day of celebration of Newroz in Istanbul and then she was sent to jail. Her mother Melike Kartal said that police announced the reason of detention of Berivan as "She turned her back on us while she waited for a bus".

Police intervened in the celebration of Newroz in Istanbul on March 20. Many citizens were taken into custody during the police intervention. One of them is Berivan Kartal. Beritan was taken into custody for "Turning her back on police while she was waiting for a bus" and she was sent to Bakırköy Closed Women's Prison. Berivan's mother Melike said, "My daughter went to her friend's home after work. She waited for a bus in Bayramtepe bus stop. Then she would go to join the celebration of Newroz with her friend. She was taken into custody while she was waiting for bus. Her friend was also taken into custody with Berivan. In the testimony, the police said, "She turned her back on us while she was waiting bus".

"My daughter is 18 years old. I want my daughter to be released."
