MEREŞ - As Maraş people have continued to protest the construction of a camp of container housing for nine days, women have built a collective life.
In Maraş's district Dulkadir, a tent vigil has continued in the Sivrice Höyük (Terolar) neighborhoods, where Alevi people live, against construction of a camp of container housing for nine days. The people say that the tent city may disrupt the delicate ethno-religious makeup of the area and they ask to change the location of the camp. Women take place in the resistance and they cook in their homes for the people who have held the vigil.
One of them is Meryem Deliter. Meryem said that she has cooked three meals a day since the vigil began. "If we don't unity today, when can we? As women, we have cooked meals in our homes for the people who have held the vigil. We have also held the vigil to protest the construction of a camp of container housing."
47 year-old Döne Göksungur said, "We as Turkish, Kurdish, Sunnis and Alevis people oppose the construction of a camp of container housing and we resist against it. We want to ask why they build the camp in Pazarcık Plain. There are 16 places for this camp in Maraş. You deliberately build it here. Why in Alevi area? They are trying to bring 28,000 Syrian refugees in Alevi area. Are they Daesh? We don't know who they are.We will continue to resist against the AKP's policies."
Another woman Hatice Sarıkabadayı said, "We aren't against the refugees those who are the victims of a war. We don't want so many refugees. 28,000 refugees are more than our population. Why did they choose our village?"
Döne Kocamer lives in the same village. Döne said, "That's not only our problem but also Maraş's problem. We ask their support to us. We call on all people to come and join our resistance."
