ADANA – Meryem Belikli (50) has been coner master for 12 years. She took over the restaurant, where she had worked, six years ago. Meryem does her job fondly while the people are looking at her confused. Meryem advised on all women that women must stand on their own legs.


Mother of three Meryem Belikli (50) has worked in a doner restaurant as master in the Kayalıbağ neighborhood of Adana’s Seyhan district for 12 years. She took over the restaurant in which she worked as worker for years, six years ago. Meryem said, “I have worked for years to stand on my own legs, particulary to not depend on men. I am very happy now. I do my job in my restaurant. I cook doner and soup. Meanwhile, I sell tea and ayran in my restaurant.


“I am glad to do my job gladly even if I get tired. I began to work here as worker. I learned how I cut the doner. I worked here for years by making a great effort. I took over this restaurant six years ago. The people are interested in my restaurant. When they first see a woman doner master, they are surprised. But then they get used to that. They eat the food here without being worried.”


Meryem said that the women have very power and creative will and she continued to talk by saying, “I know this from myself. All women must stand on their own legs. Every woman should form their own economy. If women stand on their own legs, they will be happier.”
