AMED – The Women's Civil Defense Forces (YPS-JIN) member Leyla Dayankaç (nom de guerre Sara Koçer) died in Yüksekova where genocidal attacks have continued. She was buried next to the Women's Civil Defense Forces (YPS-JIN) member Kader Çoban who was Leyla’s friend and cousin.
Leyla Dayankaç (Sara Koçer) died on March 28 in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari. Leyla, who was born in Bitlis and 21 years old, was buried in Yeniköy Cemetery in Diyarbakır next to Kader.
Leyla’s friend and cousin Kader Çoban, who was a member of the Women's Civil Defense Forces (YPS-JIN), had died in Yüksekova and she had buried in Yeniköy Cemetery upon her will. Leyla’s funeral was taken to Diyarbakır upon her mother’s request. A mass took Leyla’s funeral from morgue in Yeniköy Cemetery and began to march by shouting slogans such as, “Martyrs are immortal”, “Long live Leader Apo” and “PKK is people, people are here”. The mass bid farewell to Leyla.
The Mesopotamia Association of Assistance and Solidarity for Families with Lost Relatives (MEYA-DER) co-chair Ayşe Dicle spoke after Leyla was buried. Ayşe said, “That’s enough. Leyla carried the flag of Sêvê and Beritan. We will carry her flag.”
Leyla’s mother Tevrat spoke in the funeral. She said, “My condolences to Kurdish people. Leyla isn’t the first and she won’t be the last. Leyla is the martyr of Kurdish people. Hakkari, Şırnak, Silopi and Amed are under pressure.”
The mother of Kader, Kesra Çoban, meanwhile, said, “Kader and Leyla didn’t fight against the tanks and artillery for themselves. They fought for Kurdish people. That’s enough. Leyla went, but thousands of Leyla will come.”
