WAN - Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) PM member and women's rights defender Ayşe Berktay made evaluations about the state's policies and the war that has been imposed on the region and their effects on women. Ayşe said, "Men are trying to bring the war into existence on the sexism. We must form a common struggle network against this mentality."
Ayşe told that the arrested Academics for Peace is a result of injustice. She added those arrestments are not a sign of the justice. The academics have the support from international public opinion that had caused the decision of evacuation. "Academics have been putting their labor on intellectual knowledge production. The academics who had their side from the peace did not step back. The attack to them was a effort of making them to step back and also it was an effort for imposing the public over the academics case but they did not give up and they have stayed straight." Ayşe said.
Ayşe said, the free press feels the oppression over them even in the day of Kurdish Journalists and continued with, "The government prevents people from their freedom of information by putting the free press workers into to the jails and killing them, now 32 press member had been jailed furthermore, in this process many journalists had been jailed and tortured. They are arresting them for creating the hegemony of their lies and governing people with the fear and oppressions/pressure. The members of HDP are against to war policies and supporting democratization because of that they are not been showed by the mainstream media. The government continues the war with their continuing policies."
Ayşe pointed out that the strength of the war has been hidden from the public by using the mainstream media. she continued to talk by saying, "The government has been trying to hide the strength of the war by the reason of not to demoralize the army along with that they do not want people to know the reality of the war. If they knew, that could have created a reaction among their side, they would have reflected all of them by using mainstream media. What they have been doing is a perception operation."
Ayşe indicated how the war has been building by the patriarchy in terms of sexism, nationalism and fundamentalism but more on the realm of sexism, according to her women should act together however this cannot be accepted by the men mentality but women should create their own ways for getting out of this mentality. She ended her talk with this, "They have tried to make us feel alone with their behaviours; they are trying to put us on loneliness and desperation for not to act together. However, we know that we are not alone. We must resist together against the pressure."
