ÊLIH - A two-day symposium will be held for Hasankeyf is under direct threat by the Ilısu Dam. Women will describe the policies of destruction of Hasankeyf as rape culture and they will express their thoughts on mentality that wants to establish domianation over women’s bodies and women’s will by forming a speaker's corner in the symposium.

Batman City Council will hold a symposium named Hasankeyf and Tigris Valley Symposium for Hasankeyf is under direct threat by the Ilısu Dam. The symposium will be held between 7 and 8 May 2016 in Yılmaz Güney Cinema, Batman. Academics around the world, ecologists, the associations of nature and politicians will discuss the struggle areas and which policies must be implemented to save Hasankeyf by gathering in the symposium. Women Assembly of the Batman City Council, Women's Platform and women’s assemblies of the politicial parties and the Free Women's Congress (KJA) will form a speaker's corner in the symposium.

Batman co-mayor Gülistan Akel called for struggle to save Hasankeyf. Gülistan said that they will discuss the struggle of saving Hasankeyf with all people not only the people in Batman and Hasankeyf. “We will gather with other people those who experienced the same struggle with us and the groups those who fight with the attacks on their history and culture in diffirent geographies.

Gülistan stated that they will meet with the people of Hasankeyf on the second day of the symposium. “We will form a people platform by gathering. We’ll raise our voice to save the world heritage Hasankeyf. We’ll carry on work with Women Assembly of the Batman City Council, Women's Platform and women’s assemblies of the politicial parties and the Free Women's Congress (KJA) and we’ll form a a speaker's corner in the symposium. Women will describe the policies of destruction of Hasankeyf as rape culture and they will express their thoughts on mentality that wants to establish domianation over women’s bodies and women’s will in the symposium.”

Gülistan called on all people to save Hasankeyf.

Hasankeyf and Tigris Valley Symposium will be held between 7 and 8 May 2016 in Yılmaz Güney Cinema, Batman at 10:00 a.m. Women’s corner will be held between 4:00 p.m and 8:00 p.m.
