‘We want to live in peace not police stations’

AMED – Women object to building police stations in the Sur and Bağlar districts of Diyarbakır instead of schools and community health centers. “Our children are afraid of police, we don’t want police stations, we want live in peace.” said women.
Many houses, stores, schools and community health centers have been damaged in the attacks on the Sur and Bağlar districts of Diyarbakır. Meanwhile, state forces have begun to use the schools and community health centers as police stations for “security” reasons. It is stated that 10 schools and four community health centers in Bağlar will be converted into the police stations. As state forces keep watch at night in some schools, the people stated that these schools have been used as military quarters. Bağlar women said they feel uncomfortable about the situation.
Women are afraid so they didn’t want to be written their name. R. has lived in Bağlar for nine years. “We haven’t had any problem untl now. We get along quite well with our neighbors. They say, “Send your children to schools” and they give the schools to police. Our children are small. They are afraid of police. They tell us, “We want to go school, they will shoot us,” We go to school with them just stop their crying. We also don’t want the police in the schools. They kill our children and themselves. Both sides shouldn’t be die, end this war.”
Another woman H. stated that there are raids and arrest. “We don’t free even if we talk in the streets. If police stations are built in our neighborhoods, the people won’t speak in Kurdish among themselves. They build police stations in front of our homes. Our children won’t play in the streets. We just want people not die. Our youths, police and soldiers shouldn’t ne die. We want to live in peace not police stations.”
