AMED - Our reporter Beritan Canözer had been arrested for being "excited" while she was covering a protest against the 24-hour curfew. She was released on the first hearing on March 29. She has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison by the court.
People and MPs organized a march to protest and break the siege in the Sur district of Diyarbakır. Our reporter Beritan Canözer was covering the protest while special forces surrounded Beritan in Ofis area of Diyarbakır and took her into custody for being "excited". Beritan had been taken into an armored vehicle on December 16, 2016 with her camera and microphone. She had been held under detention for four days within the scope of "reasonable doubt" and then she had been sent to jail. She had been released on the first hearing on March 29 after stayed in the prison for three months.
Second hearing of Beritan was held today. She is acquitted from "Being members of a terrorist organization"; however, she has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison for "making propaganda of a terrorist organization" by the court. Meanwhile, the court has ordered five years supervised release for Beritan.
