MÊRDÎN - Women those who didn't leave their neighborhoods in the "curfew" which has been declared in the Nusaybin district of Mardin so far, had to move to Kızıltepe in the last "curfew" due to ongoing attacks and deaths in the town. "The smell of Nusaybin is enough for us, we can live in tents." said women by stating that they will never leave their lands.
Resistance against genocidal attacks has continued in Mardin's Nusaybin district, one of areas of self-government. As attacks have continued in the town for 66 days, Nusaybin people those who had to move to Kızıltepe, wait to return to their neighborhoods. Nusaybin women, who deny leaving Kurdistan, said, "We want to live on our lands and live in tents even if our houses have been demolished and burned."
Nasibe Sönmez is one of these women. She burst into tears when she began to talk about Nusaybin. Nasibe mentioned many times that leaving Nusaybin was very difficult for her. Nasibe said, "We hadn't left our home until the seventh curfew was declared. However, we had to leave Nusaybin on the last ban (curfew). We'll return to our hometown and home whenever the ban is lifted. They killed one of our relatives during the first ban. Our children were scared. My daughter in law gave birth after our home was raked. We watch the news every minute. We wonder whether our home is destroyed or not. The houses can be demolished, but don't let our people die. That's atrocity and injustice against the Kurds.
"We want to return our hometown. We want to gather with our neighbors and live together as before. We'll return to Nusaybin the day curfew be lifted. We didn't flee from Nusaybin and we didn't want to leave our town. We'll set up tent and live in the tent, but we don't go anywhere."
Nuriye Akdoğan also had to leave Nusaybin and she lives with her family in Kızıltepe now. She is looking forward to return her hometown Nusaybin. Nuriye said, "We didn't want to leave our home. However, we saw that they killed everyone during the last ban and we had to leave Nusaybin. We left our heart in Nusaybin. The smell of Nusaybin and our lands is enough for us; we can live in the tents."
