Intimidation, expropriation policies in Silvan

AMED - Martial law has been imposed in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır since 24-hour curfew was declared and continued for 12 days. The police have driven around the district day and night. The police have frisked the people arbitrarily and opened fire into the air at nights. They even interfere in the people when they go out to their balconies.

24-hour curfew had been declared in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır on November 3, 2015. The curfew had been imposed for 12 days in the district. Mescit, Tekel and Konak neighborhoods of Silvan were destroyed by police and soldiers after curfew was lifted. De facto ban has continued in the town after lifting the curfew. The police, who have turned Azizoğlu Mansion in Mescit Neighborhood into police station, check the citizens' IDs by stopping them in the street. The residents in town stated that the police have frisked the people and many people have been threatened by police. The police have driven around the town day and night with armored vehicles.

State forces haven't given the citizens peace in Silvan after the 24-hour curfew was lifted. Even they have disturbed the people in their own homes. The police haven't allowed the people to go out to their balconies and roofs and they have opened fire in the streets by yelling.

The women, who don't want to give their names, mentioned that they feel uneasy about ongoing situation and they want the police to go out from their neighborhoods.

As the people in the district stated that they have faced to intimidation policies, the news about the state's projects of urban transformation and building police stations in every neighborhood get around the town.
The people said that the state used the clashes and trenches as an excuse to declare "urgent expropriation" in Sur and Cizre and now they are trying to declare expropriation in Silvan, too.
