WAN - Şamran Water Channel, had been constructed by Urartian King Menua in BC 9, is one of the oldest water channels in the history of humanity. The water channel is in danger of becoming dydfunctional due to ongoing destruction.
51-kilometer-long Şamran Water Channel located in Van's Gürpınar district is a unique example of engineering genius. The water channel, which had been constructed by Urartian King Menua in BC 9, is one of the most important surviving pieces of architecture by the Urartian Kingdom. However, the water channel will be destroyed if not be protected. The Şamran channel has carried the water from Başet Mountain to Edremit and then to the Van center for 2900 years. Meanwhile, it is the most important water channel for the agriculture of Van. The channel can be used for years if it is protected.
