HEWLÊR - Journalist Gazal Avaniş, who was detained by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) members in Duhok on May 19, has begun a hunger strike.

A journalist and producer with Sterk TV Gazal Avanaş (Aysel Avesta) was detained at the Sehela checkpoint outside of Duhok by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) security forces on May 19 while she was going to from Shengal to Laleş the holy site for Êzidîs. Gazal was stopped from entering the city and was detained as she made her way to shoot the fest of Êzidî Sheikhs in Laleş.

A commander of peshmerga, declined to be named, informed that Gazal Avanaş was brought to Parastina; Intelligence Service of the KDP, yesterday and Gazal has continued the hunger strike since she was detained and the health of Gazal is severely deteriorating due to the KDP members haven't allowed her to use her medicines.
