AMED - Sidar was pregnant for eight months when curfew was declared Sur. She brought her baby to the world on the night she left the district. Sidar said, "This resistance will be remembered for years." and said that's why I named my son as Berxwedan (Resistance).

A historic resistance has been the talk of Diyarbakır and Kurdistan people since December 2, 2015 (the date of declaration of curfew). The curfew has been imposed on the some parts of Diyarbakır's Sur district for six months. The corpses of 16-year-old Rozerin Çukur and 17-year-old Ramazan Öğüt haven't been taken by their families yet. Thousands of houses were burned; historical artifacts and buildings were brought down in ruins and bombed and young people were killed in the district during the curfew. The people don't to collapse like the historic walls of Sur. They have named their babies Berxwedan (Resistance). The parents said, "I will keep this resistance alive by telling it to our children, grandchildren and everyone."

Sidar Kaya lived in the banned Dabanoğlu Neighborhood and she stayed in her home for 20 days under attacks during the curfew. She was about to give birth and had to leave her neighborhood for her child. Sidar brought her baby to the world on January and she named her son Berxwedan. Sidar said, "Our son also a part of this resistance. This resistance story will continue by passing from me to my son and from my son to other generations. Berxwadan felt and heard the bombs in the womb during the curfew. Sidar said that she had really difficult time during the day she stayed in Sur, "I stayed in Sur for 20 days during the ban. I have three children and my children couldn't sleep due to bombs and bullets. When the bombardment was stopped, my daughter asked me, "Are they having a break to eat something?"

"Police opened fire on the neighborhood nonstop afte the ban was decalred. I often had labor birth pain. At the end, my husband called the police and told them that we need to go out. They told us, "Don't go out without notice". However, they began to open fire more. They opened fire on everything. We went out from Sur and I brought Berxwedan to the world on that night. Berxwedan resisted against the death while he was in the womb. The state does the worst thing here; the youths were very kind to us. The state found a chance to kill Kurdish people step by step. We don't trust in the state."
