Sebahat Tuncel elected as co-chair of DBP

ANKARA - Democratic Regions Party (DBP) held its 4th Extraordinary Congress in Ankara today. Sebahat Tuncel and Kamuran Yüksek have been elected as co-chairs of the
Democratict Regions Party (DBP). Sebahat said, "The word has become obsolete after Silopi, Cizre, Sur and Nusaybin. The word is resistance behind the barricade anymore."

Democratic Regions Party (DBP) held its 4th Extraordinary Congress in Ankara today with the motto, "Freedom and Resistance despite everything" with a large participation of politicians from various political groups and institutions, including the co-chairs of HDK (People's Democratic Congress), DTK (Democratic Society Congress), deputies of HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party), and co-mayors of the HDP Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş, co-mayors of Kurdish cities, chairperson of the Free Women's Congress (KJA), the representatives from Left- socialist Party and representatives from the European Parliament.

While the congress attracts large attention and participation, the mothers of Mehmet Tunç, Mehmet Yavuzel, Seve Demir, Sakine Demir and Pakize Nayır those who were killed in the areas of self-government attended the congress.

The congress was begun after keeping minute of silence for the people those who lost their life in the struggle of democracy and labor. The DBP co-chair Kamuran Yüksek, who has been jailed since May 10, sent a letter to the congress. The letter was read in the congress.

Sebahat Tuncel made a speech in the congress and she said, "The word has become obsolete after Silopi, Cizre, Sur and Nusaybin. The word is resistance behind the barricade anymore. We not only ask freedom for Kurdish people, but also the people in Turkey."

After the speeches, delegates voted for the election of the party council. Sebahat Tuncel and Kamuran Yüksek have been elected as co-chairs of the Democratict Regions Party (DBP).
