ANKARA - Deputy Executive Editor of Agos Newspaper Karin Karakaşlı evaluated the approval of the resolution titled "Remembrance and commemoration of the genocide of Armenians and other Christian minorities in 1915 and 1916" by Germany's Federal Parliament yesterday. Karin stated that if the people approach the motion sincerity and in good faith, that could lead to positive results. An Armenian translator Kayuş Çalıkman, meanwhile, said; Germany may use the motion as a threat against Turkey.

Germany's Federal Parliament approved the resolution titled "Remembrance and commemoration of the genocide of Armenians and other Christian minorities in 1915 and 1916" yesterday almost unanimously with one lawmaker voting against the motion and another abstaining. Deputy Executive Editor of Agos Newspaper Karin Karakaşlı evaluated the resolution and approval of the resolution. Karin pointed out the difference between the resolutions in other countries and the approved resolution in Germany.

Karin's comments on the resolution are as follows; the most important and main difference between the resolution in other countries and the approved resolution in Germany are; a reference to the historical role of Germany 1915. It is not only a reference; it also gives place to the historical data in a very detailed manner. The resolution has revealed how the German Empire in the period hid the truth and reports from the public and MPs while it had all information a full-fledged. And the result of all these; as chief ally, Germany has declared itself as an accomplice in genocide. If the people approach the motion sincerity and in good faith, that my desire is in this direction, that could lead to positive results. This will give a hope and power to the people those who want to raise their voice in Armenian issue as well as in all other matters despite all the pressure of the regime.

"We souldn't consider the genocide resolution only concerns the Armenians of Turkey and the Armenian Diaspora. Because, massacres, mass murder and genocide are a crime against humanity. A state can give another life to the next generations when it learns something from what happened and refuses to deny. We see the ongoing slaughter, destruction and oppression imposed under the name of operation in the Kurdish provinces. Of course, the hope of facing the page of history is very little while we are witnessing what is going on here and the ongoing situation has been denied. However, I want to hope anyway."

An Armenian translator Kayuş Çalıkman also evaluated the approved resolution. Kayuş said, "I can say that it is good because Germany has revealed its share in genocide. However, we are in a period that; there is no goodwill in any way for any segment in Turkey. I don't think the approval of the resolution will very effective in such a period. The approval of this resolution seems to me there are other accounts while Merkel admires Erdoğan. These kinds of issues don't become the main topic of agenda while the bilateral relations are good."
