'I couldn't recognize my sister due to torture she faced'

MÊRDÎN - Mother-of-five Nurşan Demir was evacuated from Nusyabin with other civilians. Nurşan was tortured while she was detained. Her brother Cemal Nergis said, "I couldn't recognize my sister who grew up with me." Cemal said that state forces took his sister with kicks and punches by rolling up her from sixth floor to the ground floor. Cemal said, "Her pupil of the eye couldn't be seen due to blood. I haven't seen something like that before."

77 civilians had been evacuated from Mardin's Nusaybin district. Pro-state media announced these civilians as "members of the PKK". Mother-of-five Nurşan Demir (36) is one of these civilians. Nurşat had been detained due to she hadn't left her house in Fırat Neighborhood. She was exposed to torture when she was under detention. Cemal Nergis went to see his sister in prison on June 2 and he couldn't recognize her sister due to torture she faced.

Cemal said, "I went to the prison and waited for my sister. I saw a woman smiled me and told me, "Welcome brother". I asked myself "Is she my sister?" I looked her face and eyes. I had my words stick in my throat. Then, I asked her what happened to her. She told me, "They handcuffed our hands behind and they steped on our heads." I couldn't see her pupil of the eye due to blood. I couldn't recognise my sister due to tortured she faced. I haven't seen something like that before. Her five children are at home. The oldest one is 12-year-old." Cemal said that Nurşat was detained due to she didn't leave her home and lands.

Cemal stated that they left Nusaybin three months ago and they will return to Nusaybin. "We'll set up tent in front of our home even if there is only the name of Nusaybin left. We wanted to stay with our killed people; however, we forced to leave. The people cannot be annihilated by killing. Kurdish people also cannot be annihilated. You haven't been able to annihilate these people for 40 years, you cannot anymore. Enough, we want peace. These people don't want this war."
