AMED - Baysal Peker, who cannot leave her lands, goes to her village in Lice every weekend. Baysal has planted potatos in the village for the first time and she is waiting for the results excitedly.
Women, who have been forced to leave their lands with the policy of war in Kurdistan, insist on not leaving their lands. Women in Diyarbakır's Lice district have begun to do agriculture with coming of summer. Baysal Peker is one of these women. Baysal lives in the city center of Diyarbakır. She goes to Comlaş (Daralan) village of Diyarbakır's Lice district every weekend to do agriculture. Baysal has already planted potatos, peas and zucchinis. Baysal is the first peson, who plant potatos in the village.
Baysal called on every woman to do agriculture by saying, "Women will stand on their own feet if they do agriculture." Baysal told us why she began to plant potatos, "My husband works in wholesale market hall, sometimes, I visit him there. I realized that the potatos have been sold in the hall very good. I told my husband, "Let's plant potatos in our village. First, I worried if potatos couldn't grow. We didn't know how to plant potatos, so we did research about planting the potatos. The potatos have become green after we planted them. I am realy happy now. I am looking forward the result. All villagers are looking forward the result. They will plant potatos if we manage.
"I come to my village every weekend. All women should do agriculture. They will stand on their own feet if they do agriculture."
