Wounded in Cizre Funda waiting for help to walk

ŞIRNEX –Funda Barın (15) was shot in the right leg by an armored vehicle opened fire on people during the first curfew lasted nine days in Cizre. Funda is waiting for help to walk again. She cannot be treated due to economic difficulties. “I just want to walk. The economic condition of my family is bad to have me treated. I ask for support.” said Funda.
21 civilians, including children and elderly people, were killed in the Cizre district of Şırnak during curfew imposed between September 4 and 12, 2015. Meanwhile, tens of citizens were wounded by state forces. 15-year-old Funda Barın is only one of them. She had been shot in the right leg on the sixth day of curfew. Living in Nur Neighborhood Funda was wounded in the right leg the result of fire opened from an armored vehicle while she had been returned from their neighbor’s home in order to get water from them. Funda had been sent to Şırnak State Hospital. She has had 23 operations in three months. However, her leg hasn’t impoved despite three operations. Having bruises in the leg Funda needs 20.000 lira in order to walk again.
Funda told us the incident day, “We didn’t have water. We needed water to cook. My brother’s wife sent me to our neighbor’s home to get water. I went to neighbor’s home and got water from there. I couldn’t return to home. An armored vehicle opened fire on me and I was wounded in the right leg. I stayed in home for six hours. My uncle is a health care worker. He tried to treat; However, I lost blood.”
Funda said that they could reach the ambulance by passing from streets and homes amongst bombs and bullets. Police told her in Cizre State Hospital, “We will treat you if you don’t say the state did that.” Funda cannot walk for 10 months and she said, “I just want to walk again. The economic condition of my family is bad to have me treated. I ask for support.”
Mothers of five Zeynep Barın, meanwhile, said, “Even the neighbors couldn’t help when my sister was wounded. There was sound of bombs and gunshots. My daughter lost a lot of blood. She has had 23 operations; however, she hasn’t impoved despite three operations.”
Zeynep said that their home was burned during the second 24-hour curfew lasted 79 days. Zeynep said, “I don’t have anything left due to our home was burned. I cannot have my daughter treated. First curfew lasted nine days; however, it was like nine years for us. I wish I were wounded instead of my daughter. I just want my daughter to walk. They told us that we have to pay 20.000 lira for operation. We don’t have a home to live now, how can we pay this amount? Support my daughter to walk again.”
