AMED - Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality co-mayor Gültan Kışanak evaluated the policies of attack carried out against the municipalities held by the Democratic Regions Party (DBP). Gültan noted that the government has tried to prepare the public in Turkey with law of local governments. She emphasized that the government is doing its utmost to prevent the work of the municipalities; however, the main objective is to seize the cities.

As genocidal and massacre policies, that begun in Kurdistan lands by the state, has continued intensifying with lifting the immunity of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MPs, the announcement of "trustees" to be appointed to municipalities held by the DBP , appears to the public every day as new projects style. Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality co-mayor Gültan Kışanak evaluated the attacks on the municipalities and the issue of trustees. She said, "Local governments have had a highly successful practice that hasn't been practiced throughout the history of the Republic. When we are compared with the classical municipal of centralized government, that's clear that we have an amazingly huge success by realizing our own shortcomings and works we couldn't do by ourselves. That who cannot stand against our success has begun to carry out the policies of attack."

Gültan cited that the government has targeted the local governments as a part of the government's total war against the successes of local governments. Gültan stated that the center government has tried to intensify their attacks when the government notices the works carried by local governments and its connection with the people. Gültan underlined that the villages were burned and demolished under the name of draining the swamp in 1990s. She stated that they thought they would stop the struggle by annihilating the villages. There are cities and local governments in their new attack strategies. Gültan said, "The state couldn't stop the people's struggle despite heavy attacks. So, it has begun different quests. They want to dry the people's resources with attack policies on local governments where people could breathe and express themselves."

Gültan noted that the government has tried to prepare the public in Turkey with law of local governments. She emphasized that the government is doing its utmost to prevent the work of the municipalities; however, the main objective is to seize the cities. She said, "They do everything to prevent us making our job." Gültan said that the ministry doesn't take them into consideration and therefore, actually, the municipality has been confiscated."

Gültan mentioned the destruction in Sur. She stated that the destruction they see in the photos taken from satellite in April, has continued. Gültan pointed out that all historic buildings are being destroyed illegal and unlawful. Gültan said, "We have written to Governor's Office many times to renew the destroyed infrastructure; however, we have got negative response. We know that all delegations, contractors, bank officials of Provincial Bank and ministry have entered the town. However, they haven't allowed the administrations of municipality and UNESCO site managements entering Sur. Therefore, the central government has confiscated five neighborhoods as de facto. They cannot stop our works and struggle with trustees and decision of expropriation."
