Êzidî women build arbor against scorching heat

SHENGAL - Shengal people and women continue to resist against all difficulties. "Resisting is not only fighting with weapons, but also not leaving your lands." said Shengal women, who built arbors on Shengal Mountain where summer temperature rising up to 48 degress.
Êzidî women those who migrated to Shengal Mountain due to ISIS attacks, have designed their living space according to weather conditions. They have build arbors in order to protect themselves from scorching heat. One of these women Gulê said that they have difficulties due to temperature up to 48 degrees. Gulê stated that her children become sick due to temperature extreme. "Many diseases are emerging due to eating hot food and drink hot water. Children are badly affected by hot wind. Children cannot eat something due to hot weather and they are losing weight. That's why we built arbor to protect us from the Sun." said Gulê.
Henan Nayif is another Êzidî woman on Shengal Mountain. She said that Shengal Mountain is so hot. She stated that they protect themselves under the arbor especially at noon. Henan said, "This heat causes many diseases to emerge. Particularly, children are getting sick. We have to eat hot food and drink hot water. We cannot protect our food and water due to hot weather. So, we expect people's support about that."
Sefiya Şivan noted that they have difficulities in tents. She said, "Our tents are old and they cannot protect us from the sun. We built arbors to protect ourselves. We carry out a resistance against nature, but this resistance is good. Resisting is not only fighting with weapons, but also not leaving your lands." Sefiya addressed on human rights defenders; "Only send drinking water to our children in order to protect them from diseases."
Typhoid and brucellosis are expanding on Shegal Mountain due to hot weather. Women protect themselves and their children by building arbors.
