AMED – 11-year-old F. showed that the resistans remain in people’s mind the most against attacks carried out in order to destroy history and memory of Sur.
“Curfew” has been declared in the Sur district of Diyarbakır until now. The last “curfew” which was declared in the town on December 2, 2015, has continued. The siege has continued in the town despite the announcement of the AKP government that “Operation ended” on March. The memories of resistants remain in Sur not the burning, demolishing and killing attacks. Everyone, who lived or stayed even one hour in Sur and saw the resisting young people, tells the resistant youths to others. And children… 11-year-old F. told us the young people, who become heroes for all children.
F. stayed in Sur until 29th day of curfew. He told us what he saw when the first trenches were dug until last moment. F. said, “First, big brothers came to Sur and they began to dig the trenches. I didn’t understand what was going on first. They treated me and my siblings very well. Then, the first curfew was declared. The channels called them as “terrorist”. But, they didn’t harm us and the people in the neighborhoods. When I saw that news, I began to help them. I talked to them. I helped them to dig the trenches even if they didn’t allow me. I stayed with them until 3 a.m. I, my siblings and the children in the neighborhood always were with them. They made jokes.”
F. stated that the YPS and YPS-JIN members always helped them. F. said that his mother didn’t let him to go out during clashes, so he was worried about them. F. noted that there were two YPS members named Andok and Zozan near their home. F. said, “I liked them both of them. They saved my life and my mother’s life many times. Soldiers called them as “terrorist”; however, the soldiers targeted us. These two people saved us from the soldiers. The soldiers opened fire on us whenever we tried to go out to have water or bread. My mother and father said, “We won’t leave here even if we are killed.” I told them, “I won’t leave even if you leave.” I loved all people there. But, I loved Andok more. I want to be like him when I grow up. I stayed inside during the clashes and I just faced the atrocity of the soldiers and police.”
F.asked us, “Do you know they killed who whenever you heard a bomb sounds? F. is 11 years old but he explains everything calmly. F. also witnessed 12-year-old Helin Şen was killed. F. said, “They entered people’s home by force and they threatened the people. When 12-year-old Helin Şen was killed by police, I was staying near the wall in front of her. People were awaiting their turn to buy bread from the bakery. She was in fear when she was coming to the bakery to buy bread. Then, an armored vehicle opened fire on her by targeting. She fell to the ground. Police didn’t allow the people to take her body. I didn’t move during she stayed on the ground. Then, the people began to make sound. Everyone made sound by hitting the shutters. People took her body by this way. I went to see Andok more after I saw Helin was killed. They never broke a clash when we were with them.”
F. is waiting for returning his home. He said, “I had told everyone that, “I won’t leave here, I won’t leave them alone.” Then, the police entered our home, too. My mother was pregnant. Police battered my father. We had to leave when my mother had pain of childbirth. My father promised me to return to Sur. We left on February. There was snow on the ground that time. I went to Sur everyday. They were there to protect us. I felt happy whenever I thought they could stay alive. However, I heard that all these young people fell a martyr. Each day one of them… I told my mother that, “I will join them.” My mother told me, “You are very small.” I am waiting for growth. I will never forget them. I will go there with my family again and I will live there again.”
