Women get together with the project “Organic Orchard” in Çaldıran

WAN – Women get together again with the project “Organic Orchard” carried out under the leadership of Çaldıran Municipality for women's employment. “Our biggest acquirement is to put a women-based project into practice. This project is also a project to bring women with their essence.” said Çaldıran Municipality co-mayor Sunay Atabay.
Projects to increase the employment of women continue to be produced in the Çaldıran district of Van. Women planted fruits and vegetables on five acres land located in the Beyazıt Neighborhood within the scope of the peoject “Organic Orchard” carried out under the leadership of municipality. Women will produce organic products according to weather conditions, meanwhile, the production in two greenhouses will continue. As district women support the project, women will make an economy contribution to their family with natural products.
Çaldıran Municipality worker Sakine Baydar gave informations about the project. Sakine noted that their objective is to form communal production by bringing women together. Sakine stated that women in neighborhood visit the orchard everyday. Sakine said, “Women always watched us. They wondered what we were doing here. When they wanted to get information about our project, we told them. Women were surprised. Because it is first time, a project is conducted under the leadership of women in our district. Taking women out “house arrest” wasn’t easy. We, as municipality workers, managed to take women out their homes.”
Leyla Atsak, who works in Women’s Unit of the municipality, stated that they put the women into production again with the project. She said, “Women and nature have been separated from each other due to state systems. While women pioneered the production in natural life, unfortunately, women’s connections have been broken with nature and production. Our main objective is to bring the women together and begin to product together.”
Çaldıran Municipality co-mayor Sunay Atabay stated that they began the project “Organic Orchard” by forming orchards in many villages and neighborhoods; “Our female directorate members go to the fields and work there. The orchards will be given to women those who live in the neighborhoods and villages. They will take some products for their families and they will sell surplus products in order to make an economy contribution to their family
“Our aim is to promote women in agriculture. Our biggest acquirement is to put a women-based project into practice. This project is also a project to bring women with their essence.”
