Selma Irmak: We'll raise our struggle against gendered discourses

AMED - "We can see a mindset of ISIS. There is an approach that tries to isolate women from society. Massacre against women has increased since the AKP government began to rule." said, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Hakkari MP Selma Irmak and she stated that women will respond Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım's gendered discouses by raising their struggle.

Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım paves the way for sexual assaults against health care workers by saying, "Citizens go to emergency departments in hospitals in during the feast. They go there to find girl." the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Hakkari MP Selma Irmak reacted to his words and she said that making such a statement by the prime minister of the country shows the condition of the country. Selma said, "This government reveals its gendered policies. Spoken words unveil the mindset of the government. We never accept and we condemn such discourses and approaches."

Selma pointed out that these discourses and attacks against women aren't the first. She noted that the AKP government's ministers, prime ministers and academics have used these discouses from time to time. Selma said, "Actualy, these approaches reveal the AKP government's women's policies. We can see a mindset of ISIS in these approaches. There is an approach that tries to isolate women from society. Massacre against women has increased since the AKP government began to rule.

"In the past, women were taken as prize law. ISIS and the AKP government want to continue this mindset. However, as women, we will respond those make plans on us by organizing in all areas. We'll organize and apply self-defense like how people do against war policies. Women will raise their struggle against gendered discouses and mind that legitimizes rape."
