Mücella Yapıcı: We'll gather in the Counterforum

ISTANBUL - As World Heritage Committee has discussed 40 of 100 endangered cultural heritages on the 40th session, Sur wasn't discussed. Mücella Yapıcı made a statement on the issue. "UNESCO should comply with the purpose of its foundation, it cannot keep silent against what is going on." said Mücella.

Many organizations and initiatives like World Heritage Watch and the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Ecology Council react to UNESCO for not talking abour Sur where destroyed by imposing "curfews" and siege. One of administrators of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) and architect Mücella Yapıcı evaluated the ongoing situation and the forum against UNESCO to JINHA.

"We want to raise our voice to the world by organizing this forum, coming togerher is just beginning." said Mücella and stated that they will not stop this organization and they know that there are people in countries with solidarity in the world like them. Mücella said by pointing UNESCO, "If they stand by neo-liberal economy, then we will stand by humanity, peace, democracy, history, culture globally and we stand by our values completely. That's a normal reaction; we don't call it as alternative."

Mücella underlined that UNESCO should comply with the purpose of its foundation and she said, "UNESCO's silence is inacceptable whether it imposes sanction what is going on in Istanbul and Sur or not." Mücella said that they will gather in the Couterforum. We give importance to UNESCO; however, this is our warning to UNESCO, we hope we'll raise our voice."
