RIHA - People in Kapıkaya (Bab) village of Urfa's Siverek district go to other cities on April for working as seasonal workers due to they cannot maintain their life from bovine breeding. Remziye Yaşar said that they have difficulties and human relationship has been destroyed due to development of technology. She said, "I won't go this year. I can maintain my life on my own land. Before, we were happier and in sharing. Today people spend hours by watching a box. Even, we can't share our pains."
Remziye Yaşar, who lives in Kapıkaya (Bab) village of Urfa's Siverek district for 15 years, has begun to plant and gather wheat since she came to the village. Remziye is dealing with her only source of living bovine breeding. Remziye noted that they have trouble with water and electricity in the village and she has to carry water from far away. She said, "Women live in the most difficult condition in the village. We gather wheat after planting. We control the animals and fodder them before the end of the day. Woman is the only person who struggle with difficulties in villages and cities."
Remziye stated that all villagers hold animals because the lands of the village are arid and unfavorable and women fodder the animals and milk the cow in the day. Remziye noted that all people in the village go to other cities for working as seasonal workers due to economic troubles. Remziye said, "We go to other cities to gather nuts and cotton in certain periods of the year. Doing something on your own lands is the best feeling; however, we work for other people's lands. We go to the West for low-price. We don't receive a recompense for our works and are held in contempt.
"I won't go anywhere this year. Maybe, my husband goes. I can maintain my life on my own land somehow. Before, we were happier and in sharing. Today people spend hours by watching a box. Even, we can't share our pains. Machines are working in the fields, we just gather the products. Technology has enslaved people and usurped our common areas. But, people in the village share everything with each other despite everything. If I need something and ask it from one of my neighbor, they will give. Commune life protects themselves in the villages."
