AMED - Second Army Commander General Adem Huduti, was detained and sent to jail after the coup attempt, was the commander who cleansed "Sur and Cizre". Adem was heroized by reciting praises for him. However, he is now a "traitor".
"Curfew" was declared in Diyarbakır's Sur district on December 2, 2015 following killing of Diyarbakır Bar Association head Tahir Elçi on November 28, 2015. After obfuscating the evidences, curfew was paused for 17 hours on December 11, 2015. Curfew, which was re-declared after 17 hours pause, has been imposed in the town despite the statement, "Operations ended" on March 9, 2016. State forces demolished Sur by using all military forces for 103 days. The YPS (Civil Defense Forces) and YPS-JIN (Women's Civil Defense Forces) members displayed a resistance lasted months against JÖH (Turkish Gendarmerie Special Operation), PÖH (Police Special Operations), SAS (Underwater Defence), Bordo Bereliler (The Special Forces Command ,nicknamed Maroon Berets). As all kinds of ways and methods had been tried in Sur district in order to break the resistance, tens of people, including 12-year-old Helin Şen and 55-year-old Fatma Ateş, were killed, many people were tortured and dead bodies of women were displayed.
The person, who commanded the operations "Flag-2" in Sur, was Derik District Gendarmerie former commander Musa Çitil. Musa Çitil had been tried for killing 13 people and sexual torture crimes between 1993 and 1994; however, he was acquitted on all the charges against him. After being acquitted, Musa Çiti got promoted to Diyarbakır Gendarmerie Regional Command. He was a "hero" that time.
Another person and "hero", who commanded the operations in Sur, was Second Army Commander General Adem Huduti. People know him as "hero" because he was heroized by media for the operations in Cizre carried by him. He commanded the operation called, "Operation of Martyr Gendarmerie Chief Master Sergeant Burak Demirci" that started on December 14, in Şırnak's Cizre district. The district was "cleansed" step by step. Hundreds of people, including journalist Rohat Aktaş, were burned to death in the basements of savagery. As many unidentified dead bodies have been held in morgues, media called this commander as, "The commander who inflicted a heavy blow on the PKK in Diyarbakır and Şırnak", "Second Army Commander General Adem Huduti commands the operations", "The commander who cleansed Sur and Cizre", "Hero commander becomes the fear of the terrorists".
After the coup attempt on July 15, "hero" commander has become "traitor". Newspapers have begun to publish news about Adem Huduti with the titles reads; "Huduti's family: He disappoints us", "Huduti Pasha arrested", "Putschist Second Army Commander General Adem Huduti arrested."
Anti-racist and human rights activist Malcolm X said, "If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing."
Adem Huduti was a "hero" for some people while he is a "traitor" for other. But it is significant that the body of Cemile, 13, shot dead in front of her house, was kept in a deep freeze by her family in order to protect her dead body. 35-day-old Muhammet Tahir Yaramış died after being denied access to hospital. 57-year-old Taybet İnan was killed and her body remained in the street for seven days. Selamet Yeşilmen was shot to death near her doorstep. 12-year-old Helin was killed while she was trying to buy bread, 17-year-old Rozerin Çukur's dead body was given to her family after five months.
