AMED - Democratic Region Party (DBP) General co-chair Sebahat Tuncel evaluated the coup attempt, the applications of state of emergency and the ban decision on Imralı Island, she said, "An independent delegation should go to Imralı immediately and examine the situation on site. Otherwise, the crisis in Turkey will be deeper. We, as DBP, will be in the streets until the situation of Mr. Öcalan becomes clear. We'll organize activities and actions."
Democratic Region Party (DBP) held a press conference about the coup attempt, state of emergency and the ban decision on Imrali Island in headquarters building with the participation of the DBP General co-chair Sebahat Tuncel. Sebahat spoke in the press conference and she stated that they, as DBP, made evaluations about ongoing situation many times by noting that people have passed through a difficult period. Sebahat mentioned that Turkey had a serious problem on July 15, "This coup attempt may seem like blocked, we think there is still a coup attempt. The AKP government made evacuations about a coup attempt against them; however, this coup attempt was carried out against Turkey."
Sebahat emphasized that the problem cannot be solved by declaring state of emergency and she noted that state of emergency has been imposed on Kurdistan for one year. Sebahat also noted that the state of emergency applications have been put into practice since election on June 7, 2015. "We can get better Turkey with democracy not by declaring state of emergency. The AKP has carried out a policy restricting freedom instead of judge putschists. We warn again that it is impossible to get rid of this coup if we don't establish democracy in this country.
As Bursa 1st Enforcement Judicature has banned the PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and other prisoners held in İmralı the right to visit, written communication and phone conversation during the course of the State of Emergency, Sebahat noted that the concerns of Kurdish people democracy advocates are gradually increasing. Sebahat said, "An independent delegation should go to Imralı immediately and examine the situation on site. Otherwise, the crisis in Turkey will be deeper. We, as DBP, will be in the streets until the situation of Mr. Öcalan becomes clear. We'll organize activities and actions. Mr.Öcalan has been held hostage in Imralı. The government and CPT Home (European Committee for the Prevention of Torture) should do their parts."
