İdil report released

NEWS CENTER- A report on the psychosocial effects on women and children during and after "curfew", which were imposed in İdil for 43 days, has been released. The report has revealed the massacre and destruction of state forces once again.

Union of Southeastern Anatolia Region Municipalities (GABB), Şırnak Municipality and İdil Municipality have released the İdil report named "Research Report towards Psychosocial Process of Women and Children during and after curfew imposed in İdil"

Union of Southeastern Anatolia Region Municipalities (GABB), Şırnak Municipality and İdil Municipality carried out work with Women's Initiative for Peace (BİKG), Women's Freedom Council (KÖM), sociologists, psychologists and social workers in order to prepare a report on the psychosocial effects on women and children during and after "curfew", which was declared in İdil on February 16 and lasted 43 days. The report was prepared by talking to 609 women in Turgut Özal and Yeni neighborhoods of İdil.

23 civilians, including one woman and nine children died during 24-hour curfew; however, no investigation has been opened about the civilian death. The report states: "The conflicting period before curfew and the period after curfew have been observed to cause severe trauma on women and children.

"Most of people had been forcibly displaced. Some stayed with their relatives, who live outside of İdil, some set up tents in villages and some rented houses. People had serious difficulties to pay rent because they couldn't find job. 1200 buildings in Turgut Özal and Yeni Neighborhoods were damaged, 150 houses were burned. Damaged or non-damaged buildings were begun to tear down by cabinet decision without informing the people in the town."
