'Mom, I join an honorable journey'

WAN -YPS-JIN member Hazal Aslan (nom de guerre Feraşin Sidar), who died in Cizre, left a letter reads "Mom, don't worry about me, I join an honorable journey." behind her and joined self-government resistance in Cizre. "She is the pride of the family," said Hazal's mother.

Women's Civil Defense Forces (YPS-JIN) member Hazal Aslan (nom de guerre Feraşin Sidar) took her part in self-government declared in Şırnak's Cizre district and died during state's siege that lasted 79 days. Her mother and siblings told her to us.

Hazal was born in Beytüşebat in 1992, her mother Ayşe Aslan pointed out Hazal's friendly and courageous attitude and said, "We were good friends. Women in the village didn't talk to men due to tribal structure. But, Hazal was different. She talked to men." Ayşe emphasized she respects her daughter decision of participation in the PKK and Hazal went after her dreams. "My daughter resisted for her people. I am proud of her." said Ayşe.

Hazal and her brother Baran Aslan grew up together and went to the same school. Baran pointed out Hazal's courageous standing; "Hazal helped me while I crossed swords with my peers. She wasn't scared of anybody. She was such brave person. Police raided on our home in 2012. They entered home without taking off their shoes. Hazal told them, "Take your shoes off". She was fearless." Baran said that Hazal was deeply affected to these raids and she decided to join to the PKK on March 8, 2013: "The reason of the participation in the PKK on March 8, International Women's Day, was longing for women's freedom. My sister isn't more valuable than Mehmet Tunç and Pakize. She is the pride of the family. She became guest of Mehmet Tunç and Pakize in Cizira Botan, homeland of Mem û Zin."

Hazal was named as "Feraşin Sidar" after she joined the PKK. Hazal sister Sidar told her sister us with words followings: "I was 13 years old when my sister went. I was small; however, first I felt that she would go." Sidar told us that Hazar left a letter with the words:"Mom, don't worry about me, I am going to mountains, and I join an honorable journey." Sidar also said, "She loved me so she chose my name for herself. My sister will be my hero to the end."
