AMED - Jiyan Gülten was taken into custody on August 5 and he hasn't been allowed to see his family and lawyers since then. "Our children's screams can be heard from the streets. We should raise our voice against torture and unlawful detention. These unlawful applications will continue if we stay silent." said Jiyan's mother, Şahile Gülten.
The AKP government, which has suspended the European Convention on human Rights in Turkey, has extended the detention period to 30 days by declaring state of emergency in all Turkey. As citizens rights have been violated with extension of detention period, detainees haven't been allowed to see their lawyers and family members. 19-year-old Jiyan Gülten was detained in Şehitlik Neighborhood on August 5, while sitting in a teahouse and he hasn't been allowed to see his lawyer and family for 12 days.
Şahile said that special operation forces raided on their home one day before detention of Jiyan. Şahile said, "They entered our home by breaking our door. My son wasn't at home when they raided on our home. Next day, he was detained while sitting in a teahouse. They haven't showed us the reason for the arrest. He has been held under detention for 12 days."
Şahile noted that there are many detained people and some of them can see their family, "Citizens tell us they hear screams from Polis Okulu (Police Academy). It seems pretty obvious that they have tortured our children. They haven't allowed us to see our children, so we don't know how they are now. We hear screams from the prison (next to Police Academy) while passing in front of it. We concern about them."
Şahile stated that she was summoned to testify one week later of her son detention, and she said, "They called me and told me they would allow me to see my son. I went there; however, they only asked if the young boy is my son. Almost no one see their relatives held under detention. Everyone should take steps for people those who have been held under detention. The entire world should see these unlawful detentions. These unlawful applications will continue if we stay silent. We should stand up for our children."
