AMED – Gülistan has maintained her life by selling the vegetables seeds that she grew, in the streets of Çınar.

You come across 67-year-old Gülistan Ateş while you are walking in the streets of Diyarbakır’s Çınar district. She welcomes you with smile on her face and with her white scarf and of course there is a box full of vegetable seeds next to her. She sells the vegetable seeds in order to stand on her legs against people, who say “Women’s place is home.”

Gülistan said, “People told me that my place is home; however, I don’t think so.” Gülistan told us that many people cannot stand the sight of women in the streets; however, she is trying to break this situation. Gülistan also said, “If there is anything I have learned so far is that women can do any job. We think we can overcome everything by organizing together. I am calling on every woman to not stay at home.”
