ISTANBUL – Following the closure of the daily Özgür Gündem, its office has been sealed. The newspaper’s workers and journalists held the newsroom meeting in front of sealed office.

24 journalists were detained during raid on the daily Özgüe gündem following the closure of the newspaper. 22 of 24 journalists were released yesterday. The released journalists have to their duty and held the newsroom meeting in front of sealed office.

Reyhan Hacıoğlu spoke in the meeting and said, “They detained us and they closed our newspaper; however, our newspaper continued to be published while we were under detention and it will be published tomorrow, too. This struggle cannot be stopped. We’ll continue this vigil and the tradition of free press.”

Released journalist Burcu Özkaya said that the traditions of free press and Özgür Gündem daily come to these days by paying great price. Burcu emphasized that they would not keep silent against bombs, massacres and impression. Burcu said, “We take their power from people and we will not bow down against impressions.”
