The 8th Palm Prize to be given to Academics for Peace

ISTANBUL- The eighth Johann Philipp Palm Prize, which has been granted every two year, is granted to the Academics for Peace.
Johann Philipp Palm or Johannes Philipp Palm (17 December 1768–26 August 1806) was a German bookseller and a strong anti-French agitator and freedom fighter during the Napoleonic rule in Central Europe in the beginning of the 19h Century. He was executed by the Napoleonic Army in August 16, 1806. Since 2002 a private foundation at Schorndorf awards a Johann Philipp Palm Prize for freedom of speech and the press every two-year. The eighth Palm Prize will be held this year. One of two awards has been granted to the Academics for Peace. The prize committee says, “This pacifist group of academics launched a petition for freedom of speech and peaceful resolution of the conflict in Turkey.”
Another award has been granted to radio journalist Ines Lydie Gakiza, Ines had been threatened for her research on the Burundi government and their human rights violations. She had to leave her country in 2015.
The awards will be given to the Academics for Peace and Ines Lydie Gakiza on December 4, in Schorndorf town of Germany.
